A Different Man is the latest from Phil Driscoll. If you are looking for him to showcase his trumpet talents, this project will be a disappointment. He only plays on a handful of songs, one being "Christ Remains," which is my favorite on the album-and it really showcases his ability.

This release has a little something for almost everyone. "Place In My Heart" is a great song with a touch of the old rock and roll background that is ingrained in Driscoll. The beat is infectious and the background vocals combine with lyrics that might give this some crossover appeal. And, speaking of old rock and roll ties, "The Long And Winding Road" describes a sentimental journey back in time. It is a simple but moving arrangement. I think baby boomers will enjoy this rendition of the Lennon-McCartney classic as it takes on a whole new meaning in this setting.

There are several R&B/Gospel songs that I really enjoyed. The guitar work on "The Lights Of The City" is enjoyable and effectively combines harmonica into the arrangement. It is one of those Ray Charles-ish type songs that are so infectious. I also like "Walk With Me Jesus" and "Road To Jerusalem," which have catchy beats and lyrics. The ballad "Time Of Your Life" has a Spanish feel, reminding me of Carman's "Most Of All." The heartfelt title track and "Love Won't Let Me" are very engaging songs that will likely bring up recollections of a past experience where you would like a second chance for redemption.

I found A Different Man to be a real winner. The husky nature of Driscoll's voice and the solid backing vocals, along with the theme of the project, II Corinthians 5:17 ("If any man is in Christ, He is a new creation"), should make this a winner.
