With the rash of girls with pianos showing up in popular music after the success of Norah Jones, it is easy to get lost in it all. She has what most of these ladies have, a good voice, a cute image, and some good melodies. According to Amanda she comes from a different background than most of the other gals. She grew up going to and playing at punk and hardcore shows. Although she has some pretty driving melodies I don't think she was particularly influenced by these groups, although I would imagine it is terribly difficult to translate punk and hardcore into vocal-driven piano melodies.

Amanda does well with this album and you can tell that she is passionate about her music. She does have a good voice and her melodies are well written, which is enough for some, and those people will probably love Daily News.

She does have a problem with stepping outside of popular song structure in any way though, she is taking no risks with her music. Because of that the album seems to be lacking. You might listen and think it is good music, but probably never go back because there is nothing to hook you, to make you choose this album rather than another. Although Amanda doesn't stand out from the pack of girls with pianos, she is near the lead.
