What an ambitious effort by one guy! This tape is definitely one full of surprises! The first song, "Failure," starts the tape off with an industrial feel and, throughout the tape's progression, the style changes to a heavy metal/death metal feel. "Failure" has a good concept, but it falls a bit short of its potential. Most industrial-type songs are based on a balance of monotony and change, and he does not always choose the best route to accomplish this musical necessity. All eight songs have outstanding lyrics! However, the vocal variation leaves something to be desired (since the style is essentially the same rhythms from song to song--just either fast or slow). Since these lyrics are so well-written, the songs would benefit from a more presentable and pleasing vocal presentation; whereas now the music doesn't live up to the lyrical quality. A few of the vocal problems could be solved with a better mix; but, unfortunately, a good mix is often hard to find in such efforts. Something has to be said for this one-man effort. He sets forth to do something that just isn't done: a 24 minute song. He even maintains good lyrics throughout the song and manages to use words like "preponderant" correctly! The effort is noble and actually comes off pretty well, but there are fairly high expectations for a 24 minute song and he had a lot to prove. "The Healing Power of Death" is a magnificent title and the total effort has a wonderful concept. With songs like "Guillotine" and "I/O Error," his songwriting ability becomes entirely evident. The lyrics are unmistakably impressive! With maturity and a greater focus, this guy could turn his potential into excellent hardcore metal music.
