Those of you who've wondered what Ian Arkley of Seventh Angel has been up to will have their answer in Ashen Mortality. Together with his fiancee, Melanie-Sarah Bolton, they've put together a devastating tape of three brutal songs with all the heaviness you'd expect from dear old Ian.
Ian describes the new sound as doom metal -- a label that fits well, although I'd add that the band has a speed metal crunch to its guitar sound, and they go after it speed-wise occasionally in "The Darkest of Nights."
After reviewing too many (shall we say) "light-stepping" projects this time around, it felt great to play a thunderous tape with a monster sound. This one'll require some hassle to order, but it'll be well worth it.
