Deliverance: "I'll have a coke." Living Sacrifice: "Give me a Mountain Dew." Starflyer 59: "I'd like a Perrier with a twist of lime."
While some bands take a predictable approach, Starflyer 59 goes for that "unique unto itself" approach. They have an alternative sound with edgy guitars, often painting a dreamy landscape with its melody lines. I wouldn't describe it as gothic (or goth), but it reminds me of that scene, with its slow beat and droning vocals. Let's just call this "perfect music for that depressing day" music. Lots of edgy and dirty guitar tones are used, but this definitely fits more into an alternative music collection than a heavy hard music one.
The opening track starts things off in a cool direction with a nice dose of feedbacking and raw guitar accompaniment, but soon shows the band's identity by drifting into a very soothing melody. Of all the Tooth & Nail releases, this is by far the most pop oriented.
