Australia's Battered Fish have released the cleverly titled ten song CD, Lure. The band's sound is an adventurous mix of acoustic guitar styles and rhythms ranging from the laid-back and jazz oriented "Jessica," to shades of funk pop, and on to generous smatterings of progressive changes. While this is a rock album, there are no electric guitar tracks or keyboards, and very little in the way of studio processing.
Caleb James' lyrics declare that God is not dead, tell a bitter story of an aging victim of child abuse, and rant about the morning traffic. Truly, this is not a man with a one-track mind.
Lure is currently available in the US through mail order only. Purchasers must send a bank draft for AUS$20, which is approximately $15 in US currency. The groovy artwork on this release alone is worth checking out. Battered Fish is considering hitting the States directly later in the year, possibly beginning with the forthcoming Marathon Records compilation CD.
