Album of the year? Well by some it might be. By me, it is definitely in my top 10. This album is sick. This band is amazing. Think Kid Dynamite meets Modest Mouse meets TV on the Radio and then slam it together with one side of The Swing Kids and one side The Dismemberment Plan. This five piece Washington DC (and they are on Dischord) based wacked out band has two albums ("S/T" and Cough) to their name and each one of them will blow your mind...especially the new one, Cough.
Black Eyes takes punk rock to a new level that has never been visited before and throw art rock right into the mix and add a few little spazzed out rants to make this band and their sound gel and make perfect sense. They use the following instruments on this album: Drums, Guitar, Bass, Saxophone, Percussion, Keyboard, Zurna, Hand drum, Slide-whistle, and Shakers. There might be sounds on this album only your dog will hear and understand. Cough was recorded at the legendary Inner Ear Studios (Minor Threat, Dag Nasty, Rites of Spring, Fugazi) and produced and mixed by Ian MacKaye (Minor Threat, Embrace, Fugazi). Besides Q and Not U's last record, this is the best record that Dischord has put out in a long time.
Eleven tracks of outrageous originality and positive aggression. Get this.
