What punk rock usually does, without even trying, is it captures raw, rabid, and released emotions. What was bottled up comes screaming out with all the control and polish that rage allows. Blenderhead captures this passion and releases it in 12 groove-ridden tunes here.
A tune like "Cesspool" is a perfect example. It seems as if all the rage that being treated like garbage over and over again comes spilling out at 90 mph. Not to say it's devoid of melodic groove, though. The melody is what sets up the anguished vocal delivery to have more impact -- something Nirvana was great at.
"Alcohol House" is another tune that screams (literally) with emotion about the false promises of "we can get along" (ie. "we'll change, honest").
The plodding, melodic feel of "Internalize" is very cool. Shades of Cobain really come to mind here. The Helmet-like aggro riffs of "Soapbox" rule! This is not only the best song on the album, but easily one of the best cuts in Christian hard music this year. It's funny to hear a progression in the chorus that's like Killers-era Iron Maiden. The crunchy riff in the verse just kills! The solo in the bride is sonic mayhem a la Living Colour in psycho mode.
My expectations were shattered with this disc. I didn't expect much more than some garage fodder and I have come away impressed -- with the desire to give this one plenty of private airplay.
