Time to Believe is the sophomore release by Dove Award winning New Artist of the Year, Clay Crosse. His second release should help solidify his career in contemporary music that his debut established, with a broader musical reach than just pop/AC tunes. The music is still accessible, and makes the album fun to listen to, and his clear delivery makes the message clearly understood.
There are plenty of musical styles combined on the project. There is a good bit of R&B influence in a number of tracks, letting Crosse get into some more expressive, grooving moments. There are also a number of ballads, both the powerful pop and soulful slow styles. There are even a few jazz influences thrown in, including a jazzy saxophone solo on "God is Love."
One of the musical departures is his remake of Andrae Crouch's "Just Like He Said He Would." It is stacked with horns and organ in a resounding gospel manner--choir backup and all.
Crosse didn't write any of the songs, but chose a collection that is very focused on God, and finding our contentment in Christ. These songs should appeal to any Christian who appreciates some comfort and encouragement.
Time to Believe offers more room for Crosse to show vocal flexibility, and he takes the opportunity to shine. It offers similar statements to his first project, but in a new and fresh setting.
