What if OK Go and Pinkerton-era Weezer were to someday fall in love and get married only to find that the only way they could reproduce was if Hot Hot Heat were to carry their baby for them? Well, assuming Hot Hot Heat agreed to the procedure, nine months later they would give birth to a young, energetic, but slightly less inspired rock and roll band named Cordalene. The kind of band that writes fun, catchy music without a lot of substance. And the kind of band with nothing but potential. The Blue EP boasts a handful of memorable hooks and some fairly solid songwriting. The only thing Cordalene really lacks is their own style. They've got the talent and energy to make some really excellent music, and I'm sure they will soon enough. They've just got to stop sounding exactly like a hundred other bands. Give these guys a year or two and I'll guarantee they hit it big. One of these days these kids are gonna make their folks real proud.
