Count the Stars have been around in one form or another since 1995 (when two of the founding members were only 12 years of age). Based out of Albany, NY, CTS have been touring and selling their first CD on their own, but have now signed with Victory and released this debut, "Never Be Taken Alive."
Count The Stars are a competent melodic rock band. It seems like labels are gobbling up bands like CTS at a furious pace. While it might be hard to keep track of them all, most like CTS just aren't exciting. They do, what they do well, but what they do is overdone. Uninspired lyrics, commonplace musical styling and generic vocals are the formula for "Never Be Taken Alive."
The recording is good, with thick guitar tracks and solid mixing. The only downside is flat sounding drums. The bottom line is that there's nothing to set this band apart from the rest.
