Phil Keaggy, John Sferra and Daniel Pecchio-Glass Harp--one of the most revered bands from Cleveland, Ohio, along with the James Gang--has a CD full of brand new music! These are not tracks dug out of the vaults from the '70s (though that wouldn't be bad, either!). Recorded in studios around Nashville and Ohio, Hour Glass is proof that you can go home again. Mainly known for the guitar pyrotechnics of Phil Keaggy, these guys prove that they are a viable working band for this millennium offering an eclectic mix of musical styles.
"7 in a Box" begins with 4/4 time guitar riffs, accompanied by three-part hip-hop harmony. "What's in Your Heart" showcases Keaggy's amazing guitar abilities: Delta slide groove rock and some of the most fierce and fast lead work anywhere. Whew! You barely have time to catch your breath, and you are in the middle of the Brit invasion power pop inspired "You Whisper Something." What a way to start an album. There are many highlights here--John Sferra's "Everlasting Light," Daniel Pecchio's "That Way," and Keaggy's "Voice of God Call Out." Each of the members write, sing, and play, creating a rich tapestry as they show us their musical identity, bonded by 30 years of friendship and music making. No small part in this album.
This music is inspirational, but this band gives Keaggy the freedom to create what he might not get to do on some mainstream Christian label. For classic rock fans, sure, but more than good enough to garner a load of new fans.
