Sacred is a decidedly worshipful album, with hymn-like tunes. Instrumented with piano, jangly acoustic guitars, and folky percussion, there are times of reflection, times of rhythmic celebration, and times of repentant worship in the vein of the Vineyard Burn Service.
The opening track, "I Need to Know," with its sparse piano accompaniment echoes a mighty Tori Amos anthem, without the angst. The first thing that strikes me about Kate Miner is her voice, which really has a Carly Simon quality, but a bit lower. At times, I think she stretches a bit beyond her range- both too high, and too low at times, but for the most part, Kate dwells comfortably in the lower alto regions of timbre. "I Will Not Move" is a delicate, and humbling song, with airy harmonies, where Kate's vocals seem to be right in the most adequate range, without the extra strain that seems to show up at times in other tracks. Pulsating in rhythm, "Sacred Night" which is really a kind of Christmas tune is a definite highlight of the album. "Stay" is wistful, beautiful and nicely composed.
