Coming From Somewhere Else featuring the "Rocketown Writers" Gordon Kennedy, Wayne Kirkpatrick, Phil Madeira, and Billy Sprague. This is an excellent CD full of favorite songs made famous by such singers as Michael W. Smith, Susan Ashton, Sandi Patty, and PFR. This is the first time these four songwriters have come together to put the best of their careers on a CD. Listening to the songs from the voices who wrote them brings the songs to a whole new level. The words of songs such as 'Hunger and Thirst,' 'Place in This World,' and 'You Move Me' take on a whole new meaning when you realize the voice singing them means every word being sung. It is a message coming straight from their heart. The music is very upbeat as it draws you closer to the Father's heart. The music is very strong with acoustic guitars and the voices of these "Rocketown Writers." The songs don't sound quite the same as when Smith or Patty sing them, but they are none the less great songs. In fact, I would have to say they sound even better: I think there is something about hearing a song from the one who wrote it that makes it come alive in a way no one else can even come close to.

I happened to see Kennedy, Kirkpatrick, Madeira, and Sprague in concert a few months ago and they were wonderful. There were full of wit and happy to share the stories behind the writing of the songs. I think that is what made me like this group so much; they were not afraid to be real and bring the music down to earth, from their heart to yours. It was a great concert and the CD is wonderful. If you like Contemporary Christian music, you will not find it any better than right here on Coming From Somewhere Else.
