Wow. Kill Ratio has to be the angriest, most peeved-off band in Christian music. If you can even classify them as a "Christian band." Frankly, there's nothing spiritual about lyrics from songs like "Saccharine":
Sweet words whispered
But what do they mean
Can't forget
It's possible
That you may not
Mean what you say...
Or from "Why Not?":
Tossed
Thrown away like trash
It all meant something to me...
Brushed away
Like a piece of lint
Sadness turns to anger
I can't handle this...
Kill Ratio is obviously all about anger and aggression. Their crustcore/sludgecore sound, with its metal-ish growling guitars, hardcore vocals, and shouts makes for a potent mix. Sonically, the individual guitar tones and vocals are well represented, standing out clearly and sharply. Although the eight songs only total twenty minutes of music, the shortness on the songs is an unexpected asset. With the band's intensity strongly focused, the shorter songs make for a rapid-fire listen full of fiery anguish.
The whole "what makes music Christian?" debate aside, this is a good album for its genre, though people who don't enjoy hardcore, crustcore, and sludgecore will probably not be won over by this album.
