I get inside from a nipping cold afternoon of running errands, have a seat in my "office", and decide I need something different to listen to. Enter Kohllapse. Enjoyable. I'm kind of surprised that I like this cd as much as I do, since it's not like any of my normal listening. Kind of ambient industrial metal. At least that's how I'd describe it. Track 1 starts off strongly with a catchy riff. Kind of epic sounding. One of my favorites to be sure. Vocals are sung, or spoken throughout the cd. It's all pretty slow/moderate paced. acoustic guitars, synthesizers, chugga chugga guitars. So if you're a fan of hard fast metal with harsh screaming you may not like it. But hey look at me. Track 2, "Real Man in Quicksand" is pretty different from the rest of the cd though. I don't like it much. He talks like he's doing the "I'm too sexy for my.." song and the beat is electronic, it's ok but it's very repetitive throughout the entire song. Tracks 4 and 5 would have to be my other favorites. So out of 9 songs and a hidden ending track, which is basically just them screaming and goofing around, there's 3 songs I like quite a bit, but to be honest the rest are a bit boring. If you're wondering why I gave it an 8, I realize this is some great music but it isn't my favorite style which accounts for most of the boredom. Let's get down to lyrics. Without getting into detail or quoting any, I'll say that they're pretty thoughtful, but depressing. The type that you can see are christian without saying "Praise Jesus" every 4th line. That's what I like to see. So, make your own call. Personally if I had a lot of money I'd want to get a copy of this for my collection.

HM Magazine #79Reviewed by Doug Van PeltI'm shocked! These guys have completed revamped their sound, yet they come off as if they've been playing this style for years. Very confident and commercially-appealing stuff, here. While previously dancing around the heavy sounds of metal metal metal, these Aussies have ventured into the realm of modern rock without sounding contrived or wimpy.
