This is MxPx's "greatest hits" album, featuring re-mastered tracks, and two brand new songs on Tooth And Nail Records.
Has it been ten years already? Yes, your favourite pop-punk is back with their "greatest hits" album, commemorating ten years as a band. This album features nineteen tracks, all re-mastered and polished, along with two brand new songs, "My Mistake" and "Running Away". If that wasn't enough for you, they decided to get together and record another version of "Punk Rawk Show", which kicks off the album. The newly recorded version of the song captures more of the live show vibe, as it is accompanied with group vocals during the chorus, and there is even a 'lead guitar' riff added in for good measure. From there, the two new songs are introduced. From what I've heard, "My Mistake" is going to be the next single for MxPx; they are making a video for it, and it has gotten some airplay already. For the most part, this song is of the same ilk of many of the songs that were on the Renaissance EP. It is quite reminiscent of their upbeat melodic punk songs, and it carries quite well. The bridge of the song should have been carried out longer however, to create a stronger build to the end of the song; it seems as if the song ends prematurely. "Running Away" is another song similar to the ones on their last EP. It doesn't bring anything new to the creative table, but it is catchy and infectious like most of MxPx's material regardless of what you think of them.
The rest of the album reads like a typical live show for MxPx, as it features most of the songs their fan base would appreciate. All of the songs have been re-mastered and sound great in that capacity. For a few songs they have added a few new 'quirks' to them that add a bit of a twist to well known songs.
In the end, the album is done well, but is really only for the diehard MxPx fans that would want the two new songs, along with the forty-page booklet containing many unseen pictures and a timeline of the band. If for some reason you have never heard MxPx's material before and would like to find a good place to start, this would be it. Many of their better songs are on this album, and it should give you a good sense on whether they're worth your time later on.
