Officer Negative pushes the boundaries to reach a crowd that was once only reached by bands with a negative message. The band's latest album, The Death Campaign Project, is progressive death metal complete with matching "cookie monster" vocals.
The Death Campaign Project kicks into high speed with its opening track "The Dawn Breaks." Double bass drum beats, speed metal guitar rhythms, and keyboards forge their way through most of the album, but slow down a few times just to add a heavy deep mix. Track six, "Reality of Emptiness," is the only true slow song on the album and was kept as an instrumental track. The vocals through the album are nearly impossible to decipher, so the band was nice enough to print the lyrics on the inside of the CD cover.
Though death metal is a style of music that is not recognized by most Christian institutions, Officer Negative has gone against the grain and delivers a positive Christian message to a new crowd. Underoath is a comparable band that took the same step and has had success. The Death Campaign Project is musically exciting and stimulating and a perfect addition to a metal collection.
