I remember going to the Zion Guitar parties held at the San Antonio Taco Restaurant several years ago at the GMA Convention. Put on by company founder Ken Hoover, you could mill around with musicians and industry folks, noodle with guitars and munch on fajitas. I'd bring my camera and shoot tons of hot players that were checking out a broad line of Zion custom guitars. Ken Hoover, the exceptionally graceful and fun-loving man who put on these get-togethers, has been debilitated with MS, so master musician Phil Keaggy has taken it upon himself to release a special tribute album of sorts. He's pieced together songs -- both new and old -- that he recorded on his Zion guitar. There's some excellent free-form jamming, which he titled "Zion," and the classic ambient tune "March Of The Clouds." While certainly not an indie artist, we don't think you'll find this one in stores.
