Ok, boys and girls, it's time once again to pull out those bell-bottoms and cool velvet blacklight posters and switch on the lava lamp--Soulfood 76 is back, and in the groove. From the album opener "Time," a dreamy Zeppelin-esque ballad, to the acoustic-turned-funk demo "Praise God" which closes the record, Velour (retrospective) finds the gents of Soulfood zipping to all sorts of points in between. It's a deliciously out-of-date fuzz-box rock 'n' roll trip down memory lane that takes vintage-sounding funk, metal and classic rock and rebuilds them into unique combinations. While Velour (retrospective) is not a completely new album--much of this material appeared on the "non-retrospective" version of Velour--they did splice it up with some new sonics and some new recordings. If you are one of those music lovers who are tired of trendy, college rock, then maybe you should give a spin to Velour (retrospective). It's anti-trendy.
