For all the nasty rumors that have circulated around all the Christian rock bands, after all these years none can yet match the intensity and sheer entertainment value of the rumor mill generated around Scaterd Few. OK, sure many of them were true, the best of which turns out to be the report that front man Allan Aguirre (a/k/a Ramald Domkus) was looking to try out new material with a different group of musicians.

Whenever there was news of Scaterd Few, someone also brought up Spy Glass Blue. When the Few was catching hell for Sin Disease being too unsanitized for pre-Sunday School listening, some record company or other was running ads for SGB featuring a sullen looking Aguirre with the words "Coming Soon...." Nothing happened until 1992 when the band stalled for the second time recording Jawboneofanass. Then the members of Mortal were rumored to have been tapped to work on Aguirre's side project just to get SOMETHING out.

Aguirre finally gave the project his full attention when he moved to Texas after the completion of Scaterd Few's tour for Jawbone. Flying Tart put out a self-titled 4-song 7" and a 5-song cassette EP last year ($5 bucks each (P.O. Box 24904, Nashville, TN 37202), and now the full-length cd Shadows has finally seen the light of day.

For those wondering how Spy Glass Blue compares to Scaterd Few, the Blue has fewer references to Few's cross pollination of punk/reggae/ska influences. Instead, he leans on some of his more subtle influences from the artsy rock and pop of David Bowie and the alternative energy of punk pioneer John Lydon. The selections are scattered all over the musical map. Aguirre front loads the record with high-energy punk stuff for the kids like "Thin and Leaner." And he saves the more divergent stuff, like "On and On" and "Come Patmos," for the back half of the record for more patient listeners.

7ball #12Reviewed by Chris WellAllan Aguirre is an artist. Best known for his band scaterd few, his new group Spy Glass Blue features the same quirky alternative bent we've come to expect. Originally an indie project, Shadows is a collaboration with bassist River Tunnell and guitarist Kane Kelly. The album, which is finally finding national release, is a musical tapestry with many different elements woven together: If The Cure…Garlic Press #4Reviewed by cyanideUndoubtedly a great number of people are familiar with Allan Aguirre, the mastermind behind Christian music's seminal underground band, scaterd-few, and its epic album Sin Disease. Since the years following its re-release and the production of another album jawboneofanass, Aguirre surfaces with another musical project, Spy Glass Blue, and its much-anticipated full-length CD, Shadows.
