I had a really tough time getting through this seventeen minute EP from Kent, Ohio's Sweetheart. My screamo phase ended a good two years ago, so the Thursday meets Glassjaw vibe that Art is Dead is Dead has going on feels quite uninspired here in 2005. When I first put the album in, I was greeted with an actual nu-metal riff, and the generic lyric, "F*** this town/I'll burn it down someday." C'mon guys, Disturbed can do better than that. Thankfully, Sweetheart improved their sound a bit as the album went on, but not enough to actually warrant this album getting any sort of high marks.
Before I actually played this album, I had high hopes for Sweetheart. The cover art was pretty cool, they are Northeast Ohioans like myself, and with the Art is Dead concept, I had high hopes for a truly unique sound. Unfortunately for Sweetheart, the lackluster production, boring riffs, and generic screamo vocals ensure that this album will be quickly forgotten.
