Terra Firma get the most improved band of the year award, easy. While they always had a solid understanding of what's involved in creatively mixing hardcore and metal, they had not, until now, made their theory tangible. With their latest indie release, Silence Cries, they have not only made their hypothesis tangible, but rat-blood-thick. Neil Convery's roaring, gruff vocals have found tune and control, the band's BGVs finally coalesce with his the way they have been trying to make them for years, and their basic songwriting has become almost impeachable, with lots of great climax exploitation. Maybe too much guitar in the mix on a couple songs and bland cover art, but an extremely well produced CD for DIY.

There are some devastatingly heavy parts, followed by some straight-up hardcore…Similar sounding releases
