Oh man.. well, this is a 2-disc dvd of the ska band, the Aquabats. For some reason, somebody thought it'd be a good idea to make this over 3 hours long, like an epic movie... only it's not an epic movie. It's a goofy ska band in tights.
This is how I see it: if your band has 8 members in it, and you're not the.. um, well I can't think of any good bands with 8 members.. its too many band members doing too many things that make your ears want to grow their own ear plugs. The human ears can really only grasp a few things at a time. If you have guitars doing one thing, horns doing another, a singer singing something silly, and more horns getting more crazy, it goes into your head like the sound of a fax machine cranked up to 11.
Ok, honestly, I just don't like ska. Allow me to quote what my good friend told me today, "Ska is like narcotics. Some people tried it, got addicted, then quit, then maybe relapsed once or twice, and now they're finally clean.. and they look back on it like, 'What was I thinking?!'"
BUT... with every bad review, there is usually always something that I can find positive. This dvd made me laugh a few times. The costumes aren't funny, maybe in 1997, but some of their cheesy stage antics were amusing. Believe it or not, Travis Barker (Blink 182) used to be in this band. There is some old footage of him rockin' out in his Aquabat tighty-greenies. One thing I really like about this dvd though, was the fan participation. There is a lot of footage of their fans, waiting outside for the doors to open and hanging out at diners after shows. I thought including them in the dvd was a really nice gesture towards the fans of this band.
Bottom line: It's a 2-disc dvd filled with some music videos, live footage, horns, monster/alien skits (starring the band), horns, a history of the band, and more horns. More than you could ever possibly ask for if you're an Aquabats fan... but I'm not planning on having a relapse.
