Emo? What exactly is it? So many "emo" bands are emerging today but no one really can define the "genre" of music. Well, ok, let's just say that we do know what emo is. And let's just say you want to hear some emo bands. I guess if there were "veterans" of emo, The Juliana Theory and Pedro the Lion would definitely be a few. Oh, and you can't forget one of my new personal favorites, The Get Up Kids.

I had heard a lot about them and wish I would've listened to them sooner. I don't know what it is about these guys that attracts me to them but their music is really enjoyable! In the lyrics department, the songs are about your normal "emo" subjects. Some of love, some of heartbreak, and everything in between. And luckily, they don't feel the need to curse to get their point across. Oh, and I found the album art, which has drawings of robots, to be incredibly cool.

Top Picks: "Red Letter Day," "Holiday," "Ten Minutes," "Action and Action," "I'm A Loner Dottie, a Rebel" (as you can see, I'm having a hard time picking just a few)

Pros: Everything about this cd is nice, but I probably enjoy the upbeat-ness of some of the songs and then the transition to more mellow songs throughout the cd.

Cons: I really don't think there's anything I didn't like about Something to Write Home About.

The Verdict: As you can tell by reading this review, I enjoyed this cd a whole lot. The Get Up Kids are a very enjoyable band and I do believe whether you are a fan of so-called emo or not you could get into this cd and other works of The Get Up Kids.

    Amber's Score: 5/5

Decapolis 1999Reviewed by ConradThe Get Up Kids are a driving melodic rock band with interesting guitar work and very strong vocals. What these guys are good at is their rock songs. Strong instrumentation and arrangements. What I don't particularly like are the slow songs - and there's a bunch of them on the album (I'm not into slow songs if you couldn't guess). If I only reviewed the more upbeat songs, I'm sure I would have…Decapolis 1999Reviewed by Tom BastianWell, the first thing that stood out to me with this new Get Up Kids full-length is the fact that it definitely sounds different than their first full-length, and for the most part it even sounds a little bit different than the stuff on the "Red Letter Day" EP. Nothing drastic, just change. On the "Red Letter Day" EP, on at least a few of the songs the Get Up Kids seemed to be moving in that…Decapolis 1999Reviewed by TimThis is a good follow up to the Red Letter Day EP. This band is getting better and better. With really good rock songs like "Holiday," to the slower songs like "out of reach," this album is a perfect mix of good rock and slow acoustic music. The only thing I don't like is the fact that the singer doesn't sound nearly as good on the fast songs as he does on the slow ones. It's almost like he makes…Decapolis 1999Reviewed by Matt AI've been a big fan of the Get Up Kids for a while now, and I was anxiously awaiting this new full-length for some time. The first time I heard it, I was kind of disappointed, though. Where was the emotion and raw power that was so prominent in the early 7"s and "Four Minute Mile"? But I WANTED to like it, so I kept on listening to it. And man, am I ever glad I did. "Emo" is almost a bad word…
