Urban D is a hip hop pioneer in a different way. He is more like a renaissance rapper, if such a thing exists. Not only does he rhyme, he has a youth group that he runs that changes the way I personally view youth groups. From actual involvement of the kids, to bringing an urban flavor with pure spiritual teachings, the mix is invigorating to say the least. I see Urban D using the CDs he makes as an extension to his ministry, instead of the other way around. He calls in some big guns to join him on the CD. Cruz Cordero of Cross Movement fame, KJ-52, 1-Way, Corey Red (my personal fave), MC Precise, and many more show up. This is a good trend for recordings lately, because I hate to admit it, but one voice on a record can get boring. Urban D's Latin background influences some of the tracks. The lyrics are reminiscent of the Seventh Street World, straight to the point and evangelistically direct. Like I've said before in my previous articles, sometimes that listener is with it or they run when faced with the truth. After hearing Urban D's CD, though, you can never say you didn't hear the Gospel.
