So, have you heard the release at your local Christian bookstore by "Barny?" No, not the big purple dinosaur! This "Barny" (his actual name is Clifford "Barny" Robertson) is the producer, arranger, and organizer of 25 Hymns You Love To Sing - Volume 2, a sequel to the popular 1995 album of the same title.
Just like its predecessor, this release presents a collection of some of the most popular hymns of the Church. It seems with the recent popularity of praise and worship songs that hymns have taken a backseat in many churches. Yet, they are full of timeless messages relevant to the lives of people in the 90's.
These hymns are sung by a talented group of individuals who harmonize beautifully on some contemporary arrangements of your favorite hymns. They are the same songs you probably sang in church when you were growing up, with a "praise and worship" feel. One of the vocalists may be familiar to some fans of First Call. Marabeth Jordan, formerly of that group, lends her talents to this project on group vocals.
The highlights of the project are the two medleys. The first one, called "Revival Medley," focuses on the hymns "There Shall Be Showers Of Blessing," "Revive Us Again," and "I Will Sing The Wondrous Story." The second medley, called "Communion Medley," features "I Must Tell Jesus," "Break Thou The Bread Of Life," and "Near The Cross." This medley may remind the listener of the words Jesus spoke to His disciples when they had the Last Supper: "This do in remembrance of Me."
