Steve Hindalong and Marc Byrd have again gathered friends and artists to record the third and final City On A Hill alternative praise album. The first two records were full of beautifully written praise music sung by some of CCM's best voices. The series has received a Dove Award, and produced the very popular song "God of Wonders." Now, The Gathering furthers the standard set by the first pair and is another wonderful collection of songs and artists.
What keeps the City On a Hill series interesting is the collaboration of these voices and talents throughout the record. Some of the artists on this collection are Caedmon's Call, Leigh Nash and Sixpence None The Richer, Derri Daugherty and Steve Hindalong of The Choir, Paul Colman Trio, Jars of Clay, Bebo Norman, Ginny Owens, Sara Groves, Christine Glass, and Marc Byrd. The songs are once again sublime, as is hearing duets like Bebo Norman with Sixpence singing The Choir's classic "Beautiful Scandalous Night," or Ginny Owens with Christine Glass vocalizing together on the superb "We Will Trust You." Other highlights include the cut "Jesus Went To The Garden" featuring Derri Daugherty, Paul Colman, Dan Haseltine, Sara Groves, and GlassByrd, with a nod at the end of the track toward the series' most successful song, "God of Wonders."
The acoustic rock arrangements, the vocals, and the production shine. Nothing on the record will disappoint you if you've enjoyed the first installments of the City On a Hill collection.
