An industrial revolution of a different sort has been sweeping across the sometimes sterile borders of Christian music this year. Bands like Mortal and Deitiphobia have come on the scene pumping out music featuring vocal distortion, pulsating drum beats, and synthesized keyboard and guitar samples resembling the sounds of power drills and press machines manufacturing fighter jets. Wally Shaw and Brent Stackhouse of the aforementioned Deitiphobia have brought together a plethora of artists (fifteen to be exact) in this daring new music style in a collection entitled the Slava Compilation-Voice Of The People.
As in any other type of music, where you have different styles within the same classification, industrial has enough variety to keep it from becoming stale and monotonous. Accordingly, we are treated to a wide spectrum of sounds in this disc; like the harsh, guitar-driven "Flower" from X-Propagation, the techno-pop of Love Assembly's "All The Pain," the rave-oriented "Old And True" by Dance House Children, and the eerie crescendo of Global Wave System's "Commitment."
I'm told that many of these bands will have full-length projects released later this year. So, call it industrial, call it cyber/core, call it rave, call it techno-pop, call it whatever you want; this intense genre of music is here to stay.
