It seems like there is a battle of compilations going on. From Sphereofhiphop to Thu'nda to Fashion Expo, to Sonic Imperial, and on and on, it seems like everybody's dropping a comp nowadays. Urban Soldiers has set itself aside as one of the premiere compilations out there. About 6 to 7 artists have actually gotten record deals after debuting on the Urban Soldier series. The difference with this comp from day one has been that everybody gets a chance to blow it up, regardless of style, locality, or relationship to the A&R. Various methods of bringing the pain are the mainstay of Urban Soldiers. The lyrical spitfire of Man Of War resides peacefully alongside the ministry missiles of a Jah Word. This is a CD that you can drop off in the plains of Iowa or in the slums of Tijuana and get equal results. The problem with compilations, unless you own your own studio, is congruity and sometimes one emcees' production is not as high quality as another. This is the place to see the emcees of the future. Pick it up.
