Vox Dei (fairly) recently released a 4-song EP called An Attempted Conclusion at an Endless Thought, clocking in at twenty-six minutes. It showcases the band's multifarious influences, and eccentric instrumentation. Perhaps their most trademark sound is set off by Kevin Barrans' raspy, oscillating vocals, juxtaposed against music that moves between realms of emotive melancholia and raging fury. Guitars, theremin, piano, and drumming harness the moods and time signatures, becoming both part of the creativity and the core theory behind their music. This Seattle band is underrated even in their part of the world -- for some twist of injustice (most likely scene clique politics, if you know what I mean) -- and definitely a group of artists deserving of wide-scale attention and appreciation for their unabashed creativity, skill, and spirit.
