    Deliverance was a Los Angeles Christian metal band formed in 1985 around vocalist and guitarist Jimmy P. Brown II. Its 1989 debut paired fast, tightly played speed metal with melodic, intelligible singing and explicitly evangelical lyrics; the guitars were abrasive and hook-driven, while the thin bass and drums left the low end less forceful than the songs suggested. Weapons of Our Warfare kept the thrash attack and presented the band as a disciplined unit. What a Joke pushed the heaviness further, with precise chugging guitar, rapid-fire miniatures and a speed-metal treatment of "Silent Night," an unusual mixture of technical control and comic interruption. Stay of Execution shifted toward darker layered vocals, broader songwriting and Terry Taylor's production, beginning a move into progressive, moodier metal with more atmospheric guitar and introspective lyrics.

    In 1996, Deliverance broke up following Camelot in Smithereens. Brown re-formed the band in 2001, and Assimilation moved into electronic and industrial metal before another breakup in 2002. A further reunion began in 2006; the group issued As Above - So Below in 2007, then ended again after announcing a final show in 2011. By 2012 Deliverance had resumed work, releasing Hear What I Say! in 2013 as a planned final album. The plan changed after a 2016 festival appearance led Brown and George Ochoa to rebuild the lineup with Victor Macias and Jim Chaffin. Glenn Rogers also returned for The Subversive Kind, released in 2018 through Roxx Records and 3 Frogz Records. Brown pursued Fearful Symmetry and Jupiter VI during Deliverance's absences.
