    Plankeye was a Christian alternative rock band from Orange County, California, formed in 1991. Its early records drew on the county's punk tradition while keeping a strong pop sense: Spill paired jangly guitars and staccato riffs with hooks, while The Spark settled into a looser groove. Scott Silletta's unpolished lead vocal helped give the first period its rough edge. By Commonwealth in 1996, the band had moved from pop-punk toward cleaner, louder rock, adding layered guitar parts and direct songs addressed to Christ alongside writing about marriage, doubt, and ordinary life. The next shift was more pronounced. The 1997 The One And Only leaned toward radio pop, and Relocation made the change gentler and more melodic, with Luis Garcia and Eric Balmer sharing vocals after Silletta's departure.

    In July 1998, Silletta and drummer Adam Ferry left Plankeye, ending the original vocal-and-drum partnership that had shaped its early records. Silletta formed Fanmail, while Ferry later played with Other Desert Cities. Garcia and Balmer continued as a two-piece, using supporting musicians before Kevin Poush and Louie Ruiz joined for Strange Exchange in 2001; both left the following year. Wings to Fly, released in 2002, combined new material with re-recordings and older songs, and was the band's final release. Plankeye disbanded that year. Silletta later led The Franchise and released a solo album; Balmer formed Fielding with Beth Balmer in 2004.
