    Stavesacre is a Southern California rock band formed in Huntington Beach in 1995 after the breakup of The Crucified. Mark Salomon's vocals gave the group a clear center, but its early identity came from muscular hard rock: the rhythm section rolled beneath guitars that cut through discordant passages, while the lyrics treated Christian belief as a matter of argument and discipline. Absolutes, the 1997 Tooth & Nail release, pushed that sound into dark, poetic territory, pairing songs about spiritual struggle with the debate staged in "Colt .45." By Speakeasy in 1999, the hardcore roots had receded. Salomon sang more than he screamed, and the band kept its weight and roughness while making room for melody, harmonies and a more introspective mood. The Cure cover "Fascination Street" captured the change without making the band sound borrowed.

    Drummer Jeremy Moffett left during the first period, and Sam West took his place; after Speakeasy, guitarist Jeff Bellew departed and Neil Samoy joined, while Ryan Dennee became part of the guitar lineup. Samoy left in 2003 after the band had been worn down by sustained touring and pressure on personal life. Stavesacre announced a breakup in 2007, then said the decision was uncertain while finishing new material with Bellew. Against the Silence appeared in 2009. The group resumed writing in 2014 and used crowdfunding to make MCMXCV, released in 2017. It later returned to the stage at Furnace Fest in September 2021, followed by an appearance in Birmingham on October 4, 2025.
