The axemen of Christian metal are more and more numerous and more and more varied. ANGELICA, out of Canada, has just put out a five-track demo. From the first listen to the opening track "Shine On Me", you realise that the guitarist is no beginner... That is the least one can say. Indeed, Dennis Cameron (since that is his name) is one of the new WM guitarists working in a neo-classical style. "Will I Ever Learn" is a little gem, a bit in the manner of "Calling On You", with a vocal intro and conclusion, but with far richer guitar work. The solo is very melodic, fast, and very rich. "Take Me" is introduced on acoustic, and contains an excellent change of rhythm, bringing in the solo, less fast than the one on "Will I Ever Learn", but very melodic. The best track on this demo is without doubt "Only A Man"; the song packs more of a punch than the others, and it is introduced by a breathtaking solo... The vocals are fairly (too?) conventional, as is the bass/drums side of things: but let us point out that this demo "S.O.S." is in fact a calling card from this new guitar hero of Christian metal. The solo on "Only A Man" is powerful, and Dennis here uses vibrato (so dear to Oz Fox!) in abundance. "S.O.S." contains very good riffs, and a fairly complex rhythm. The solo, too, stays in a neo-classical style. The demo closes with a guitar instrumental (untitled): it is in fact a traditional hymn melody, well known in Christian churches. Listening to this demo, the comparison with Rex Carroll (WHITE CROSS) is inevitable; ANGELICA, though still little known on the Christian hard scene, has one of the best guitarists of the genre. Note that ANGELICA's lyrics are very biblical and very direct. To be discovered, urgently!!
