Maybe some but not all of you are familiar with the movie "Saw". For the uninformed, Saw is basically a movie about a guy who is tired of people not appreciating how good their lives really are. So this sicko puts some people into precarious life minus limbs or death situations where individuals are forced to chop of their hand or saw off a leg or some other disgusting maneuver in order for them to keep their lives, which they will hopefully appreciate a little more after looking death in the face.
If there was a sequel to this movie, except rather than life, the object of appreciation was music, you could picture a scene somewhat like this. Its of me...sitting in a room...listening to this CD with a pair of headphones duct taped to my head and a chainsaw in the corner which, if I'm careful enough, could cut through the tape just enough to remove the music. One foul move, and (see track #5), you get the picture. The movie would end with me being scarred for life by what I heard, but appreciating the music I know and love that much more. Of course this is a gross exaggeration, and no music could really be that bad...
Don't get me wrong, I like hard music, and someone out there may enjoy this. But I could not take this band seriously when the first song features a cheesy classic metal riff, the falsetto singing towards the end of "That Knife Ain't for Butter" made me want to harm myself, the fourth track "The Devil is the Don's" impressive slide ridden start with machine gun drumming grinds to a halt by the end, the vocals at large dirty and transparent, and Mic Skillz actually features somebody screaming the ABC's up through the letter G. I tried, I really did.
Some bands like "He is Legend" can at times get away with this sassiness, but Blessed by a Broken heart didn't earn any of my respect before taking that direction with this album. Fans of more metal than core metal core may find something here. Everybody else, stay away.
