Yet another slice of hair metal history. What makes Bloodgood important is that, where Stryper pioneered pop metal, Bloodgood paved the way for thrash metal with at least their first two albums.
Bloodgood is their debut release from 1986. The album introduced many to the driving technical guitar work of David Zaffiro and the classically trained voice of former opera singer Les Carlson, early styles that later metal pioneers Tourniquet would make their trademark. The production on Bloodgood is somewhat primitive, considering the period it was released in. On here are the classics "Accept The Lamb", "Stand In The Light", "Anguish And Pain", "Awake", "Demon On The Run", "What's Following The Grave", "Killing The Beast", and the perhaps overplayed "Black Snake". I swear that song appears on every other Christian metal compilation I've seen.
KMG Records very wisely reissued this and their second album on one disc (guess what, they both fit, no songs were edited off like other reissues) for cheap. I don't know if the production is any better on the reissue; I have both in the original CD, tape and vinyl format (overkill, anyone?), and I concede that this album sounds better on vinyl. But, Bloodgood is a landmark in the history of extreme Christian music. Check it out, and please look past the costumes...
