In my mind, hardcore has been taking a resurgence. Not just hardcore but straightedge as well. I see that hardcore pride is becoming bigger and bigger. Metalcore had it's run and thank God, real hardcore is coming back to take it's ground back from the trendy scenesters and fad finders. Bands like Blue Monday are all part of this resurrection. Within all genres there are those bands that set the mold. There are the bands that just suck at what they are trying to do and then those are bands that just fit in the middle. It's more or less a class system. Blue Monday is one of those bands that fit right in the middle. They aren't building any bridges or forging new roads. They are in the middle of the pack trying to keep the house up...the support. It's not a bad thing. "Rewritten" is a twelve song collection of angry and fast hardcore with straightedge at the center of it all. It's nothing earth shattering but it's way better than their fellow Canadian's effort known as No Warning. There are some hidden melodies on this album that carry it through to the end but just not enough to make a major impact. At times it reminds me of Champion/Stay Gold but at other times it reminds me of Cast Aside/Carry On. Good effort but just not enough.
