Daphne Loves Derby has a great sound they utilize that's similar to the likes of Copeland, Sherwood, and many others, but there is a tragedy involved on their album On the Strength of All Convinced... Album Filler Syndrome (also known as AFS). Many a band has been affected by AFS and many music fans have had to deal with the dreaded disease. It has the power to bring in an audience due to its likelihood to have at least one great song to lead one on, but crushes all one's dreams by containing track after track of mediocrity.
On the Strength of All Convinced great tracks are "Sundays," "What We Have Been Waiting For" and "If You're Lucky, No One Will Get Hurt," but they are not good enough to out-shine the other sleep inducing tracks. Few tracks change from the typical mid-tempo sound, and when a track does it tends to bore like the bare and acoustic, "Pollen and Salt." The lack of differentiation is due to the crooning vocals. After hearing several songs on the album, I felt like yelling at the singer, "I know you're the nice sweet sensitive type and you want to use that to get girls, but if you're not going to rock out you're just going to croon the ladies to sleep!" It's obvious that girls will enjoy Daphne, but because of the crooning few guys will want to listen for more than a song or two.
On the Strength of All Convinced has its bright moments and isn't THAT bad of an album, but it's far too weak to make a major splash.
