Romania. Did you ever really think you'd be reading a review of a metal band from Romania? I never thought I'd be writing one, never-the-less here is the band known simply as God. There are two full length albums available by God From the Moldavian Ecclesiastic Throne and Sublime, both of which I am reviewing here together. To be honest there's not any real differences in the music from one album to the next, more of just a continuation of what they started from the first to the second.

It's extremely hard to classify God, as they blend elements into a basic metal feeling music that have never been mixed in before. The band creates a combinational foundation of doom, black and gothic feeling music, but forces in their native middle-eastern roots. Out of nowhere you'll begin to hear music that you would expect to see in an old black and white movie version of Aladdin, or maybe something from the markets of Raiders of the Lost Ark.

God is a 6 member band, and yet only one guitarist. They employ a full time keyboardist, and violinist to round their sound out. In addition to the usual vocalist, guitarist, bassist, and drummer you get a wall of sound that shifts, and changes just about every time they get set into a rhythm.

The lyrical content is solid enough on the songs sung in english, and about half of the songs are indeed sung in their native tongue. Yet with the english lyrics, and the images portrayed throughout the insert (crosses, a picture of Jesus, the Alpha and Omega Symbols, etc.) you get a solid understanding of the bands direction.

These releases are only available on cassette, and they are nice full color cassette inserts, with gold ink imprinted on the cassettes themselves. These are seriously top notch, high quality done jobs here. It's kind of too bad that some of the recordings

My only real complaint is in the recording/mixing department. Quite honestly it's a bit disappointing at times. Not constantly but it is present here and there. Also I should note that in the insert for Sublime there are a couple of pictures of a topless woman, and in one her bare breast is in plain view. Keep in mind that in Europe feelings on nudity are no where near the same as in America, and if you are offended by this take it to heart and don't get Sublime.

All in all these albums are good with songs that change direction and styles constantly. They are both available from Terathrone Productions for $10.00 each.
