Killing the Dream is a melodic hardcore band from California but their sound would probably deceive you into believing that they are from the Northeastern seaboard. They have the American Nightmare/Give Up The Ghost sound but it is backed off a bit and is more coherent and flows better. It keeps up with the speed but lacks some of the heaviness and at some points they break down into some pop sensibility which is reminiscent of Stay Gold or Crime In Stereo. They have been together since 2002 but they did not have a solid line up until April 2003. For being such a young band, they have a world of experience and they have a bright future ahead.
This self titled album on Rival records is a mix of five new tracks and five songs that were previously on their 2003 demo. There isn't anything that is stunning or head turning on these recordings but they are still good. This really isn't something that more old school hardcore fans would find appealing. It's more for the new school lovers and the metal core kids.
