Pattern Is Movement succeeds where a lot of bands fail. Trying to add your own spin to the guitar-bass-drum line-up can often lead to disastrous results. However, using loops and sudden stops and starts along with singer Andrew Thiboldeaux's crooning voice, Pattern Is Movement produces something very refreshing. Skirting along the edges of art rock each song is satisfying, bringing the listener to a dream-like place.
'Non Servium' starts out the album as one of the strongest tracks. Jumping right into the song with no introduction, Thiboldeaux's ethereal vocals croon "It smells like drywall in here". They take a break in the middle of the song to sample a tea kettle going off and a cd drive opening and closing. It sounds overly artsy, but it works extremely well.
Most of the rest of the album follows in this sort of way, looping guitars and drums with samples and otherworldly vocals. The way they play with rhythms and loops make the album an interesting listen all the way through. It really has no lulls, but then again it is not very long either. Pattern Is Movement knew exactly what they wanted out of this album and I think they got it.
