If people associate anything with the name Marty Nystrom, it is likely to be his praise and worship song, "As The Deer." He has many other published praise songs which are also very good, and has had a folio of songs published, but My Heart's Desire is the first album in which he is featured as worship leader.
The project is intended to portray a group worship experience, not a solo performance, and follows the format of a worship leader singing live with a congregation. In this respect it is similar to many other Hosanna! Music praise and worship albums. Nystrom is surrounded by a good ensemble of singers and a lively congregation.
About half of the songs on the album were written or co-written by Nystrom, and range from "As The Deer" (1984) to his latest, "You Are Here" (1996). Other Nystrom-penned songs include "More Of You," "Shepherd Of My Soul," "In Your Presence," "I Am Not My Own," and "He Whom The Son Sets Free." These songs are skillfully blended with hymns and praise songs by other writers to make a most effective and moving worship experience.
Worship leaders will find this album a valuable resource, and others who enjoy praise and worship music should like this album, too, because it brings together songs which are very singable, but also deliver a powerful message of praise to God.
