A striking sci-fi illustration on the CD cover of their new EP, I Never Said That I Was Brave, piques interest immediately in Mewithoutyou. Their heavy, desperate rasp holds it through five tracks of tweaky, brutal garage rock. "Flamethrower" has a Focused quality to it, and bleeds via distortion into "Dying is Strange and Hard," a song that eventually drops a low-end groove on your head like a safe. "We Know Who Our Enemies Are" turns their anxiety into panic, and trips along doom-saying beats to a variety of gasping verses. "Four Word Letter" ends things as a stupored cliffhanger, conjuring the image of a stunned rebel stumbling home after being beat to crap at a bar — vowing revenge. Nice job.
