Now while I am one that thinks Mortification's glory years were during Scrolls ..., and Post Momentary ..., Blood World is still a great album. Released in 1994, Blood World became Mortification's largest selling album. Now as with all Mortification albums, there were big differences between this album and the others. Up to this point Steve Rowe pretty much kept the same line up in the band. but in this one we saw the emergence of drummer Phil Gibson. And one thing this album will not let you down in is the area of drumming. It seems Gibson can do everything a normal drummer can do ... but with the addition of crazy double bass throughout the entire cd. It seems he's doing the job of two drummers. This definitely is the strong link in this album. Now, Blood World, in my opinion is one of the last best of Mortification before they totally abandoned the death metal they were so well known for. This is the album where Steve started to scream and yell far more than he would grind. Now while I don't mind the aussie accented yell Steve is known for ... this album would be a ten if I heard a little more grinding. There is still a healthy dose of grind here though. The songs "Monks of the High Lord", and "Symbiosis" are very artistic and have some really good grinding in the midst. But the last track, "Dark Allusions" is certainly this album's best. Every time I hear this song it kicks my butt. When you turn on the album ... you are blasted by speed right away. It seems that one thing Phil Gibson helped add here was speed, speed, and more speed. Besides Scrolls this has to be Mortification's fastest album. The lyrics are typical Steve Rowe, very evangelistic and to the point. This is one reason I will always love Mortification, Steve Rowe knows what it takes to touch the world he is in. All in all if you are a Mortification fan this is an album you need to get, especially for fans of the old days. And if you just want to hear some decent metal and really crazy drumming, then here you go, enjoy.

Dead Zine 2002Reviewed by NecRoSarXThis is the first Mortification album that started leaning more toward the power metal sound found in recent releases, and away from the death metal style old school fans reminisce about. This is a transition album that struck close to a decent balance between the heavy and what some would say the artsy sides of modern metal. The songs that showcase this transition best are "Symbiosis" (with that…Heaven's Metal #48Reviewed by Doug Van PeltWhooooorrrgghhh!!! Aggressive, bold, tight, fast, furious, controlled. Blood World shows Mortification at full tilt (Is there any other way?). Extreme music for extreme times. The first thing you'll notice on this release - even before the changed vocals of Steve Rowe - is the slower classic metal approach the band takes to its music. The vocals sound great, especially in the title track,…
