"Are you ready, for some serious metal?" is shouted from the stereo upon first listening to this album. The unmistakable voice of Steve Rowe is the one doing the shouting, and in response a chorus of "Mort Fans," as we are known, return fire with a bellow of approval. This is only met with the blazing opening of "Mephibosheth," the first song on this album. What a kick off to a live EP.

This CD is a long awaited treat for those who have never been fortunate enough to see Mortification live. This was recorded in a small club in front of approximately 150 people, and is as raw as it gets. This is what death metal is all about. The insert tells us that the last live Mortification recording was done at a large festival and was over produced to improve the sound. This then is a gift from Mortification to give us the feel of "normal Mortification concert." Steve tells us in the insert that "This is the real stuff!! Stripped down, unadulterated, under-produced, extreme metalcore onslaught. Enjoy it as you play it on, and grow your hair." Without a doubt this does sum up the feeling of the album. If you are looking for a collection of your favorite Mortification songs, don't bother with this, instead get Mortification: The Best of Five Years. On the other hand, if you are interested in hearing Mortification wail through your favorite tunes that you've been listening to since 1989 (New Beginnings) look no further.

There is a great track on this disc that is just Steve talking, a nice addition to those who have been listening to Steve for years.

In summation, this is frantic Mortification. You know them, you know their music, you love it, now with Live Without Fear, you get it stepped up a notch, this CD is well worth the price of $9.99.
