After six years as a band, Poor Old Lu finally decided to call it quits. They had their farewell performance in November of 1996 and quite a few people showed for this event of a lifetime. In their final performance at Old Lincoln High School in Wallingford, WA, they put on such an awesome show that I felt privileged to be able to just listen to the CD.
To sum up the record, if you've ever heard anything else by Poor Old Lu, you'd probably recognize some of your favorites and wish they played more of them. All in all, I was pretty impressed by the performance. It starts out kind of slow, with choppy vocals and an inability to smoothly change tempos on "Hope For Always." But by the time it gets to the fifth song, they've slipped into a groove that takes them all the way to the end and you right along with them. Highlights are "Bliss Is," "All Pretty For The TV," "Drenched Decent," and the dark yet attractive "Sickly." Basically, if you've ever wanted to hear a good live recording that wasn't by one of the heavyweights like dc Talk, this is what you're looking for. It may not be as good as actually going to the show, but it's as close as you're ever gonna get with this band.
