Enchanting female vocals serenade throughout Serpents for Eggs, and are especially strong on "Break Your Heart." A mellow tune founded in a slow kick-snare drum beat, with simple keyboards and heavily effected guitars adding an eerie ambience, this has got to be the most gruesome love song I have ever heard.

Lyrically, S.S. Bountyhunter's songs are a mix of carnage ("Secrets in Blood" — "I want to hear your cries / From deep beneath the ground") and care — as in the previously mentioned "Break Your Heart" ("Break your arms / Crush your skull / Shattered wrists / It wasn't my goal / I didn't mean to make you cry / I didn't want to say goodbye / Digits lost, limbs deployed / Only heart / Was meant destroyed"). Their lyrics sound like they were written by some psycho-ex with serious issues, but that, however, is not the case. Take the song "Mystery," for example. The opening line, "When will you begin your killing spree / Let it begin with me," could easily be a metaphor for us offering ourselves to the Lord.

S.S. Bountyhunter is, of course, best when you see them live. Giving the audience more than just a rock show, their live show consists of a staged man-hunt, complete with weapons such as nunchukas, splattering blood, and dead bodies (simulated of course) flying into the crowd. It's nice to see bands with the desire to put more into their concert than just a show shirt or show shades.

I'm a self-admitted music snob, so Lord knows I have an opinion on everything (much to the chagrin of my friends). But it's different in the case of Serpents For Eggs. Oh sure, I'm pretty passionate about this release - in other words, stop reading and buy it now - so it's not that that's stopping me.
