This Dallas, TX foursome punches home blinding modern hardcore punk rock guitar riffs with agonized vocals. Sometimes they slip into some cheesy, contrived territory, but they're trying to take some risks. Songs like "Twenty-Four Hours" and "A Stick Sharpened at Both Ends" display their sincerity in the struggle for artistic and spiritual integrity. 'Cause it's not about the lyrics, but how you deliver them, or even better, as mom used to say: It's not what you say but how you say it. And Shmunks know that, and they are shooting for that aloof balance of passion and sensitivity, and sometimes they nail it, and sometimes they don't. But at least they're trying, and in the meantime making some powerful, youthful yet relatively advanced (like college prep versus remedial math) sounds that are sure to communicate their hearts and allow them to look themselves in the mirror.
