The second effort by Six Feet Deep is a distinct improvement for the band. Musically this album continues the hardcore sound that Struggle, their first album, has become known and loved for. There is a definite trend in the hardcore scene these days to move more toward a metal/hardcore blended sound, and Six Feet Deep has mastered this transition. A lot of new ground is tread by the band on this album, with every effort made turning out successful. Some of the songs go through many time changes, as opposed to the all-out non-stop ferocity of the songs on Struggle that go top speed from beginning to end. Don't worry, though-this album has more than its share of speed.

The message being delivered this time around is much more diverse. Struggle dealt mostly with the never-ending struggle of being a Christian in today's world. The Road Less Traveled touches on this issue as well, especially with the song "Slip." There are, however, other issues explored. "Broken Tree" reassures those that come from bad backgrounds that they do not have to become what they have lived. "Apathetic" plainly shows disgust with some of the organized denominations that no longer work for God but rather for themselves. Finally, "Steadfast" is a hardcore praise tune, reaffirming that God's love is steadfast.

Due to many members joining and leaving the band, and this album being recorded in two sessions separated by three months, there are distinctive sound changes on the album. Although most of the music was written by Myk Porter, the band's vocalist, the album received input from several different people. This really helps give the music a well-rounded sound throughout. Bottom line-if you liked the last Six Feet Deep album, or if you enjoy the music of Blamed, Everdown, or Unashamed, this album is for you.
